Fun Running Survey

I've always been a fan of silly quizzes in magazines and surveys. I find that sometimes questions can really get you thinking about yourself plus it's always fun to read other people's answers! I am swamped with finals week (#gradstudentlife) so blogging will be sparse until I have freedom. However I saw this running survey on Sue's blog and thought it looked fun and would be a great way for you to maybe get to know me a little better!
1.  Would you rather run along a beach path or on a mountain trail?
I'm a beach bum at heart! Running in the sand is hard but there is something beautiful about being by the water. The beach is a calming, happy place for me.

2.  If you could choose the flavor of Gatorade at your next race’s aid stations, what would it be?
Obviously, I’m a Nuun girl (go Team Nuun) -I love the watermelon and strawberry lemonade Nuun flavors, but sadly I don't see Nuun on course at enough races. If it has to be gatorade I'm actually a fan of lemon-lime which is usually on course anyways. I also love that light blue Glacier Frost Gatorade flavor!

3.  If I gave you a $100 gift card to a running store, what would be the first thing that you would purchase with it?
Ooh this is a tough one! I'd possibly grab a new pair of shoes because I love shoes. I'd definitely grab a cute and warm pullover to survive winter running!

4.  Do you prefer to follow a training plan or wake up and decide then how far and how fast you want to run?
It depends on the day for me.  I like following a loose training plan if I'm training for a big race. Otherwise it depends on how much time I have and how I'm feeling!
5.  Would you rather start your run with the uphill and end on the downhill or start your run with the downhill and end with the uphill?
I'm definitely a bad news before good news to get it out of the way person. I'd love to tough through the uphill first and end with the downhill!
6.  When you can’t run, what type of cross-training do you choose to do?
I have workout commitment issues-I love most of it! If I couldn't run I'd probably be doing lots of spinning. I enjoy the different segments broken up by songs and how challenging it is for me.
7.  What is your preference—>  Out and back, point to point or loop runs?
I think I prefer loop runs for races. For weekly runs I do out and back mostly. I sometimes do point to point only if I have a ride back to my apartment!
8.  If you could recommend ANY running related item to a new runner, it would be a—
So many things, but for new runners I always recommend going to a running store and getting fitted for shoes. Purchasing a pair of proper shoes is really important to make sure you get proper support and fit that you need.
9.  Do you ever see any wild animals while out on your runs?
Wild animals? In Baltimore it's mostly rats, ugh.  I've seen some deer and lots of squirrels and birds, nothing too crazy!
10.  Ever gotten lost while out on a run?
I don't think I've ever gotten really lost. I have a bad sense of direction so if I'm in a new place I usually try to take a really simple route.  Getting lost freaks me out, especially if I don't have GPS!
11.  If you could have one meal waiting and ready for you each time you got home from a run for the next 30 days… what would that meal be?
Pizza and a giant protein smoothie (either peanut butter and chocolate or fruity)!

12.  Capris or shorts… what do you run in most often?
I run in capris and shorts. Shorts all the time in the summer despite the chafing that sometimes happens, but I still love shorts.
13.  At what mile (or how many minutes) into your run does your body start to feel like it is warming up and ready to go?
I think the first three miles of many runs is the worst of runs because it takes at least that long for me to get into the groove most of the time.
14.  What do you do with your key when you run?
I have a spare set of keys on a rubber keychain for running. I usually throw them in my Spibelt or those little pockets in many pair of running shorts and capris nowadays. If I'm not in the city I've also put my key in the mailbox or on the tire of my car before.

15.  If you could relive any race that you have done in the past, which one what it be?
Definitely running the Hood to Coast relay a year ago with Team Nuun.  It was an amazing experience to fly across the country and run and live in a van with a bunch of strangers in a place I've never been. It was such an awesome race experience.

I'd love to hear some of your answers. Pick a question or two from the survey and let me know what your answer would be!

  1. I am not a Gatorade fan either and I pick Skratch green tea flavor. As far as my key, my Orange Mud vest has a key holder conveniently attached!

    1. I've never tried Skratch but green tea sounds yummy. An orange mud vest is on my list of things to eventually shell out the $$ for and get!

  2. I bet the Hood to Coast relay was awesome. That is definitely on my bucket list. Having lived at the beach, that was my favorite place to run, on the boardwalk. I like Nuun too. I wish they would start offering that at races.

    1. Definitely something you should try to do when you get the chance! I would love for Nuun to be offered more at races-it's easier on my stomach too.

  3. I was really thinking that I would be able to do Ragnar again this year, but now I'm not so sure and it makes me sooooo sad. I am a Gatorade over Nuun person, sorry, but I've only started getting back to being able to stomach it (lots of labs done with gatorade, we'll say that) since running marathons! Just not fruit punch or grape or orange.
