I saw Paul McCartney play for 3 hours (!!!),the Lumineers, Django Django, The xx, David Byrne and St. Vincent, and so many other amazing musicians. The weather was pretty great until Sunday evening when it got stormy.
A couple mornings I went to a Roo vinyasa yoga session, and it was so wonderful to stretch out my body in the sunshine with a bunch of other yogis. I actually spent a lot of the day walking around so even though I ate pizza and beer and a funnel cake the size of my face, I still fit into my clothes guys, don't worry. Taking time off from anything can be rejuvenating. I'd been feeling kind of in a rut lately where I didn't see much fitness progress and was just going through the motions. Now I'm ready to take on the week (well what's left) and get ready for the Baltimore Women's Classic 5K this Sunday!
Sadly though, Monday I started to feel not so well and have the beginnings of a possible sinus infection or just really bad allergies. The lack of good sleep and hanging out with 150,000 people outside probably took a toll on my immune system. I'm taking it easy but here's some ways I'm going to detox and get myself feeling great again:
1. Green tea and lemon water
These two beverages are great for flushing out toxins and providing some antioxidants. I'm going to have some green tea in the mornings instead of coffee. I love hot lemon water with a little apple cider vinegar when I wake up too.
2. Prepping salads for lunch
My life is so much easier if I have my lunch prepared and ready to grab out of the fridge in the mornings. Making a few salads ahead of time for the week with lots of vegetables, dried cranberries, cooked chicken or tuna, and some strawberries or almonds makes for a delicious lunch. All I do is add some dressing on top before I leave for work.
3. Get back into an exercise routine
I'm not trying to pressure myself and want to start with an easy run tonight and a couple Crossfit classes this week. I'll be running the 5K on Sunday with no expectations Trying to get a good sweat in will help me feel great! Keeping guilt and pressure on my self out of the picture makes exercise something I like doing for myself because it feels good instead of being a chore.
What are your favorite ways to get back on track after vacation?
I'm so jealous you got to see the lumineers play! Sounds like a great trip away, definitely good to step back once in a while!
ReplyDeleteI think the biggest thing I try and do after being away is hydrate (I'm horrible about hydration as it is) I know that being well hydrated can help get you feeling back to normal faster.
Yes, the Lumineers were especially awesome!
DeleteMy fave get back on track trick is LOTS of water!
ReplyDeleteWater is so important!
DeleteWelcome home from what sounds like a wonderful vacation.
ReplyDeleteI get back on track as soon as I get home. I have found if I put it off I keep ummm...putting it off.
I drink green tea and lemon water daily.
Thanks, it was great! Green tea is helping but it's definitely hard to get back into the swing of things!
DeletePAUL! i can't believe you saw his set. :)
ReplyDeletelemon water and green juice/smoothies will snap you right back into it.
Seeing Paul was surreal. Green juice is a good idea too, thanks!
DeleteSounds like you had a great vacation, but I'm sorry you're not feeling well.
ReplyDeleteI like to just get back to work, after vacation. Usually, I am pretty anxious after a period of little training activity, so I'm raring to go!
I'm hoping my week off will leave me with lots of motivation to get back to it!
DeleteI hope you feel better soon!
