MealEnders-An End to Overeating {review & giveaway}

Disclaimer: I was given a complimentary 4 pack of  MealEnders lozenges for review through the Sweat Pink Ambassadors network. Giveaway was offered and is provided by MealEnders. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Through blogging and being a part of many networks, I receive products and reviews offers each week with most of them not being worth my while.  Initially I was hesitant to accept the offer from Sweat Pink to try out MealEnders lozenges which claim to help keep you from over-eating, but curiosity got the best of me.

They are low-calorie, stimulant-free signaling lozenges which come in four different flavors: Cinnamon, Citrus, Chocolate Mint, and Mocha.

These lozenges are gluten-free with 15 calories per piece and only 2 grams of sugar.

I have my degree in Chemistry and love learning about science. Naturally I was intrigued by the food science of how these lozenges work, especially with the plethora of bold yet ultimately false claims made by diet foods in today's world.

Mealenders lozenges have two layers. The first is a outer "reward" layer that is sweet like candy and signals the end of the meal. It's a softer, sweet layer that melts away in your mouth. The second is a tingling "inner core's active-taste layer"  engages the trigeminal nerve or "taste" nerve to signal the end of eating.  It's harder, and the best way to describe the feel is that tingling from menthol cough drops but in a delicious flavor.

Many times I have trouble waiting the 20 minutes for my stomach to catch up with my brain and end up overeating. Also as a huge sweet tooth, I always love eating something sweet after meals-especially after dinner.

Since I was really tuned in to my body while trying these, it's hard to know if it was just my awareness or the actual lozenges, but I felt that MealEnders did actually help curb my sweet tooth and distract my taste buds in between or after meals.

 It was nice having a sweet candy to suck on with my evening tea to keep me from becoming a snack monster like I usually do.  I also love them instead of a piece of gum throughout the middle of the day while I'm at work.

My favorite were the mocha and chocolate mint because they were really delicious and that sweet bite really helped stop mindless grazing of snacks. The flavors were bold and tasted great-not weird or "fake-tasting" at all.  I found both the food science and behavioral aspects behind the  interesting and liked how these really helped with mindful eating. As always,there is not a magic candy to stop overeating or make you magically lose weight.

Are you intrigued like I was? Lucky for you MealEnders has agreed to giveaway samples of their product to my readers!

  2. I recently just tried these. They are good but I don't really see the different between them and a piece of sugar free hard candy. Maybe the price. -L

  8. I caution anyone who suffers from trigeminal neuralgia. A friend of mine gave me a MealEnder which I thought was just an after-dinner mint. As soon as it hit my tongue it instantly set off my TN and I had to go back on my medications, which as TN sufferers know, can take a couple days to kick in. The description from the company's website explains that the product "releases a proprietary blend of gentle, cool tingling sensations on the tongue, which engage the trigeminal nerve". Some TN sufferers might not be affected by this product but definitely be cautious when trying it.

    1. Thank you for the advice. I was unaware that it might affect people suffering frm TN. Definitely good to clarify that it is not just a mint!
