"Would You Rather?" Runner's Edition

Yesterday morning as I ate breakfast I read this fun runner's version of "would you rather?" from Ruthie of She's Wicked Healthy and decided to share my answers today!

Also, I emailed the winners of my Delta Labs Green + sample giveaway, and they are displayed on the widget. Thanks everyone for entering! Remember you can always use the code BREATHEBLOG for $5 off any Delta Labs order here

The other day Smith of Running with SD Mom posted that she finally took the plunge and signed up for her first marathon after receiving advice from fellow running bloggers-check out here what I told her!

1. Would you rather run a 5k or a marathon?

Tough one, but I'd rather run a 5K. So much time and training goes into a marathon, which is worth it, but 5Ks can be so fun and are less stressful. I can usually convince more friends to run 5Ks with me too!

2. Would you rather run a flat race in the heat or a hilly race in the cold?

Is flat and cold an option, haha? I suppose I'd choose hilly race in the cold. Really hot races become uncomfortable and hard really fast, even though I prefer warm weather any other time besides running.

3. Would you rather get new running shoes or a new running outfit?

New running shoes for sure. This girl loves shoes.

My current training shoes (Adidas Energy Boost 2)- I love how bright pink they are!

4. Would you rather run a race without headphones or without a Garmin?

Depends on how long the race was! I think without headphones because I like knowing how far I've gone and what time it is. I've become less dependent on music after finding runner friends and being able to talk to people on runs.

5. Would you rather run on the treadmill for an hour or in a circle around the same street block for an hour?

I'd choose treadmill. For my first half marathon I trained mostly on a treadmill. If I had an hour run, I could watch Netflix and change up the pace and incline on the treadmill to keep me from getting too bored.

6. Would you rather run a Ragnar Relay or a marathon relay?

I ran my first marathon relay in June and am running my first Ragnar-style relay at Hood to Coast in a couple of weeks so can I answer after that? I think running with a team is a super-fun experience and different from solo races!

7. Would you rather come in 4th in the Olympics or 1st in the New York City Marathon?

4th in the Olympics because representing my country on an international scale would be such an honor. I think experiencing the whole Olympic Games as an athlete living in the Olympic Village would be really fun too. Think of all the awesome athletes from all over the world I would get to meet! Even if I was only 4th place, I'd still be an Olympian!

8. Would you rather give up running for 1 year to get a BQ (Boston Marathon qualifying time) or never BQ but run as much as you want?

I want a BQ badly. I'd give up running for a year to get it. 1 year out of my life isn't much. Even though running keeps me sane, I could focus on getting strong at Crossfit and mixing in more yoga and spinning!

Post B.A.A 5K  the weekend of the 2014 Boston Marathon-I'll be back for the big race soon!

9. Would you rather run in an urban area or on a trail?

I'm really used to running in an urban area since I'm always running around Baltimore so I'd pick that. I think running in nature and on trails can be pretty, I'm just not very comfortable on them and am constantly staring at my feet and hoping I don't fall and twist an ankle!

10. Would you rather have a headache during a run or a side stitch?

Definitely a headache, side stitches and cramps are the worst when running. I usually don't get really bad headaches so I'd probably be able to power through it.

11. Would you rather run in a thunderstorm or a snowstorm?

I'm kind of a baby about running in bad weather and even though snowstorms are cold, I'm pretty scared of getting struck by lightning so we'll go with snowstorm.

12. Would you rather have a rest day on a work day or a day off?

I'd rather have a rest day on a work day. On a day off I usually go fit in a workout whenever I please and take my time. Hanging out, leisurely cooking dinner, and not having anything to do after work is the best!

Maybe I'd grab some ice cream like I did a couple weeks ago!

13. Would you rather run just because or train for a race?

I love the challenge of training for a race, but I'm going to have to go with running just to run. Those watch-less, music-less runs where I'm just out for a run with no goal mileage in mind are sometimes the best.

I love surveys! Pick a question from the survey to answer in the comments or post this on YOUR blog and let me know!

Or if you're indecisive like me, "Would you rather run a flat race in the heat or a hilly race in the cold?"

  2. Love this! There are some serious tough questions in here. I may have to partake with a post as well!

I totally agree with you on running with a headache vs a side stitch. Those side stitches are SO hard to run through!

    1. Side stitches are the WORST. Mine always happen in the middle of the run, when I'm far from my apt, haha!

  3. Oh this was fun! I want to play along and post my answers on my blog too!!
I think I'd rather run a flat race in the heat. After all, I'm used to running in the heat being in Vegas!

    1. Let me know if you play along-I love reading everyone's answers! If you're used to the heat, it probably doesn't bother you as much!

  4. I love fun posts like this! I would definitely rather run a hilly race in the cold and would rather run just to run as opposed to training for a race!

  5. I would definitely give up running for a year for a BQ no doubt! I want that so bad, but I'm thinking i will have to wait 2 more years until I turn 40 and get an extra 5 minutes :) Great post!

  7. This is a cute survey! Hmm, I'm torn like you but I would have to say a hot run on a flat race because I hate the cold. I can never feel my hands or my toes :)

  8. I love this!! What a fun post! 8. Would you rather give up running for 1 year to get a BQ (Boston Marathon qualifying time) or never BQ but run as much as you want? - I'm new to running so for me Boston isn't even on my radar other than to be inspired by others from it...

  11. Fun!!

I would much rather run a marathon than a 5k (weird I know, 5k's just hurt to me these days). I also would take a thunderstorm over snowstorm (although I run in many more snowstorms here in NY), I love the rain!

    1. Running in the rain is fine if it's not cold! 5Ks are really tough for me know-it's hard to pace myself!

  12. Since I'm a pretty fair-weathered runner, I'm going to have to say that the conditions have to be perfect for me to enjoy a run. So ideally: a 5K, in 70 degree sunny weather, no hills, on a great night's sleep, properly fueled, with new shoes and a new outfit...is that too much to ask haha?
