Procakes Review and a Chocoholic Protein Shake

Disclaimer: Through my connection with Fit Approach and as a Sweat Pink Ambassador, I received a complimentary packet of Procakes. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Today I'm sharing two of my favorite recent breakfasts. I'm usually a big egg scramble or bowl of oatmeal with nut butter kinda girl, but I like to switch it up.
Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day after all.

Like I told you earlier this week, I love pancakes and waffles. Sadly I can't be eating diner pancakes the size of my face everyday so I often turn to various protein pancake recipes as a healthy, protein-packed way to start my day.

Now while I've had some pretty good protein pancakes, I always know I'm eating protein pancakes and not the real deal.  Let's be honest.

The texture is weird because of the flour (or lack thereof), egg whites, or protein. They are either too dry because of coconut flour, too eggy, or fall apart when I try to flip them. You also generally have to cook them low and slow because of the batter which usually isn't an option for me before work.

I was really excited to try out ProCakes  which calls itself "comfort food for the fit inspired" through my Sweat Pink Ambassadorship.  ProCakes is a protein pancake mix which is high in protein, carb-smart, gluten-free, and free of added sugar.

I love that it makes whipping up a plate of pancakes a breeze- all you add to the mix is 1 egg and 1/3 cup of milk!

You can check out the ingredients here, but the mix alone is only 165 calories with 13g of protein.

I added an egg and 1/3 cup of almond milk, and it made a stack of fluffy pancakes in around 5 minutes.
Just 1 egg, 1/3 cup milk, and ProCakes mix in a bowl!
Yes, I said FLUFFY pancakes. They tasted like real pancakes, guys, and had 20g of protein packed into them.  I liked how fast and even they cooked too.
No problems flipping these bad boys!
The final product topped with maple syrup. Look how fluffy and delicious they look!

Their website says you don't have to use the mix for just pancakes. It can be used for muffins and coffee cake too!

Right now ProCakes is only sold online on their website or on Amazon for around $17. It's a bit more than I'd pay for pancake mix, but the fact that they are protein packed, easy to make, and delicious might persuade me to pick up a bag or three with Amazon Prime free shipping.

Yesterday on my Facebook page I mentioned an awesome protein shake I had for breakfast after a super sweaty November Project workout and got a request for the recipe(thanks Caitlin!).  I whipped this up in a blender on a whim.  It satisfied my sweet tooth, cooled me off, and gave me energy to start the work day!

Yes, I'm weird and usually eat my smoothies out of bowls. I feel like they are more satisfying because I'm not slurping down a smoothie in 10 seconds flat.

 Chocoholic Protein Shake

  • 1 cup milk (I used almondmilk but use whatever you have on hand/prefer)
  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder (I used Vega Sport Performance Chocolate Protein)
  • 1 tablespoon cacao powder (can substitute cocoa powder if you don't have)
  • 1/2  tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1/2 avocado (makes it super creamy!)
  • 1 tsp xantham gum (optional, this is a thickener similar to cornstarch since I like thick shakes!)
  • 1 packet of stevia (optional, use whatever sweetener you prefer)
  • 1 handful of ice cubes
Place all the ingredients (put in ice last) into your blender and blend for around 30 seconds or until smooth. I topped with some hemp seeds and chocolate chips.
Let me know if you try it out!
What is one of your favorite recent breakfasts?

  1. Ooh I was drawn to this post because of the word "chocoholic" in the title, but now I'm even more intrigued by the pancakes! Since discovering a gluten allergy three years ago, I haven't had fluffy pancakes (only the weird, banany- or zucchini-y kinds). I might have to look into these procakes... thanks!

    1. Glad to meet a fellow chocoholic! These pancakes were seriously good-while a little pricey, they are worth it for a good gluten-free mix!

  2. ;) you know me - always begging for recipes because i am not creative at all in the kitchen ha. it sounds delish! i had pancakes over the weekend for the first time in way too long. it was embarrassing how long it had been and how quickly i devoured so many of them ha. my favorite recent breakfasts are greek yogurt bowls (w/ strawberries, bananas, and granola clusters from TJs), overnight oats or banana oatmeal from fannetastic food :) but breakfast this morning was chocolate cat cookies from trader joes haha.

    1. I love pancakes so I have them all the time! I love greek yogurt bowls too, especially with allt the fresh summer fruits now. Haha, any sort of cookie or snack from TJ's is deadly for me (aka gone in two days!).

  3. I love Procakes! Your smoothie sounds delicious. I'll definitely try it. I've never added the xantham gum but I do prefer a thick smoothie.

    1. Xantham gum definitely helps and you only need a tiny amount to thicken anything up! Let me know if you try out my smoothie!

    1. I just bought Bob's Red Mill xantham gum! You only need a tsp so it lasts a while, and it makes smoothies and shakes really thick!
