#fuelyourbetter with Vega Sport Performance Pre-Workout

Disclaimer: I was given 1 box of Vega Pre-Workout Sugar-Free Energizer to review on my blog in association with my Sweat Pink Ambassadorship. I received no other compensation for this post. All thoughts and opinions are my own, as always.

I've reviewed and used Vega products before because I love that they are all-natural and plant-based. I'm a fan of their chocolate shakes and protein powders.  So of course I was excited to be selected to review Vega Sport Pre-Workout Sugar-Free Energizer through my ambassadorship with Sweat Pink in conjunction with the #FuelYourBetter campaign.

The Vega Sport Pre-Workout Sugar-Free Energizer is a plant-based pre-workout supplement designed to increase energy, boost endurance, and enhance mental focus . It's also dairy, gluten & soy free.  It comes in two flavors: acai berry, which I was sent to try, and lemon-lime.

You simply mix a little packet of the Energizer powder with water and drink 20 minutes before your workout to get the boost you need to power through!

I like that the Sugar-Free Energizer (they have a regular Energizer too) is only 5 calories a scoop and has a list of natural ingredients like green tea, ginseng, and yerba mate. It's not loaded with strange stimulants and caffeine like many pre-workout supplements out on the market. Because of that, it also doesn't make me feel jittery or overheated like some other pre-workouts I've tried.

Honestly, I wasn't crazy about the flavor. The mix is orange in color and smells yummy but was hard to swallow at first.  I didn't taste as much berry flavor as I wanted so I'd mix it and chug it fast.  It might be yummy mixed with a little fruit juice!  I'd like to try the lemon lime because maybe I'd like that better.

Now as I've said, I'm a week into marathon training. I know what to expect since this is my second time around, but there are some things I know I want to do differently. Besides working on fueling properly, I want to make sure I get all my workouts in. 12 weeks goes by faster than you think so it is important that I'm putting quality time into my training.  That means waking up early and getting a run in or getting some miles in after work. Both of those are times of the day when I may be feeling tired and unmotivated to get out of bed or off the couch.

This is where Vega's #fuelyourbetter campaign clicked for me. Fueling my better is making sure to fuel my body to complete my workouts and rock the 2014 Chicago Marathon. It means making sure I get in my workouts, even the tough ones. I'm chasing a faster time and a strong, fun race in October.  Vega's Pre-Workout Sugar-Free Energizer can help with giving me the energy boost to get in an early morning run or push through a workout after a long day of work.

  1. I have also used some of their products before and felt they tasted kind of "earthy" if you know what I mean. I guess that is to be expected with plant based products. I wondered if these drinks would taste the same way?

    1. I don't know if it's earthy-I didn't like the flavor. When I mixed it with water it wasn't clear, but kind of milky looking so maybe it was earthy. It's hard to describe!

  3. I've never tried a pre-workout drink before... I liked their all-in-one protein powder (accidentally bought it instead of normal) but it had too much added stuff for me.

    1. I think you can take or leave pre-workouts. I like their protein powder so definitely try their regular kind if you are looking for a plant-based protein!

  4. I too LOVE all things Vega but I have yet to try this. Luckily, I was able to snag some at FitBloggin so I'm going to try it out tomorrow before a swim/bike. It was great meeting you - even though it was briefly and on the last day - at least we met!!

  5. One thing you will notice after taking them, your body will want water and lots of it. Throughout the entire day I feel a noticeable rise in energy as if I had a really dark cup of coffee.

    1. Yes-I definitely need to drink more water! I was expecting more of a sudden rise in energy but that makes sense!

  7. I LOVE Vega but I've also been a little 'meh' about their drink mixes. Their protein shakes & vega bars are amazing though!

  8. I have tried their products, but not the sugar free, it's nice to hear that it's good and only has 5 calories.

    1. I think it tastes pretty similar to the non-sugar free and having something that isn't high in calories as a pre-workout is nice!
