Parade + Sverve: 5 Tips for a Running Newbie

I'm having a bit of a rough start to this week with class, work, my personal life, and trying to stay on track with my half marathon training. Fortunately, I have something positive to focus on quickly today before I get back to studying for my Anatomy & Physiology exam (bleh).  I recently joined Sverve to network with more brands and was lucky enough to work on a campaign with Sverve & Parade Magazine

Today my article 5 Tips for a Running Newbie was published online!
5-tips-for-runners-beginners'

Please check it out here, comment, and share! It's a great list of some easy tips if you have friends who or you yourself want to commit to start running this year. I've talked to a few people looking for advice on starting to train for a race or just beginning to run to get in shape so I knew this was a great topic to write about! Now for a quick workout, studying, and lots of tea!

Do you have any other tips for beginner runners? How is your week going?

  1. Great tips! I will definitely share them with some friends who are interested in starting to run.

Just out of curiosity, what are you studying that requires A&P? I have a bachelor's degree in English but went back to school last year to take prereqs for physical therapy school (long story!), so A&P isn't far behind me at all. Good luck on your exam!

    1. Thanks! I'm trying to go back for Occupational Therapy, which is under the same rehab umbrella as PT. I looked at PT before I decided on OT! Taking the pre reqs is no fun. I already had a bachelors in chemistry so most of the science classes were done except for A&P. Boo!

    2. Good for you! It's a tough decision to go back to school, especially when you're working full-time. Since I was an English major, I had allllll the prereqs to take (bio, chem, physics, A&P, medical terminology). Cannot wait until I'm done with those classes in May and start PT school in June! :) Hang in there, it'll all be worth it (at least that's what I tell myself!)

    3. It's like 20x harder when you are working, haha. Congrats on being almost done with the pre-school stuff. It'll be worth it!

  2. Aw, I'm sorry that you're having a rough time! If you're around this weekend, we can totally do something to celebrate your test being over!! If I know one thing, it's about how much studying for exams sucks haha

  3. When being fitted for shoes, if the running store suggests for you to go outside and run up and down the block to test run the shoes, DO IT! My first time being asked this, it was a store I had never shopped at before. I looked at the sales lady like she was nuts ( I just got out of church and was NOT dressed for it! LOL). Another customer explained to me that I will get a better feel for the shoe then walking around the store. They were right.

    1. Great suggestion! It is so important to do a little jog in them, not just walk around the store!
