Disclaimer: I was given a complimentary 1-day juice package from Gundalow Juice for review. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
I've mentioned before that I'm a fan of juices, especially as a way to get in some greens and nutrients on days where they are sparse from my diet. I was really excited when I tried Gundalow Juices at a tasting at REV Cycle Studio last year because it was not only a local Baltimore juice business, but the juices were delicious!
Shortly after, I got the chance to sit down with the founder Dana who has a degree in Nutritional Sciences and also owns her own personal chef business. We immediately connected on the idea of balanced, healthy living and the way that juices can be an easy, portable way to get some fruits, veggies, and good nutrients into a busy lifestyle.
I love grabbing one after a workout at Charm City Yoga or REV Cycle Studio. You can purchase individual juices or pick up a pre-ordered package at a growing list of Baltimore-area fitness studios.
Besides supporting a local business, I love that the juices are fairly priced. They offer a 16 oz. bottle for $7.50 or a 8 oz. bottle for just $5. They also offer several packages. For example a 1-day package of 6 juices like I did is only $45 dollars and a 3-day package of 18 juices is $129. Their juices are more affordable compared to some other brands of cold-pressed juices I've seen.
Now I'm not a big proponent of the typical cleanses and detoxes. I've tried the strict 3-day juice cleanse before and while I think it is a nice reset, it's hard for someone who workouts out and really likes food.
However, I was eager to try a one-day package when offered to by Gundalow because their philosophy is different. It also seemed like the perfect thing to do the Friday before Valentine's Day which was also the day I was running in my underwear at the Cupid's Undie Run before I indulged in large amounts of chocolate and wine.
I LOVE that Gundalow sells juice packages NOT cleanses. I totally am on board with resetting my body but without restriction. The information that came with my juice package recommended enjoying some raw nuts, fruits, or veggies with the juices for extra energy and possibly a light lunch and/or dinner with lean protein and raw fruits and vegetables, especially if working out.
As their website describes "We don't believe in holding you back or making you take a "light day" when you are drinking our juice."
I picked up my juices along with a cute little cooler bag at the MAC downtown last week with plans to do my juicing on Friday.
Having the juices was really refreshing and not at all limiting. I still did my workout after work and didn't force myself to abstain from eating. I had my first juice within 30 minutes of waking up and continued to pop open a fresh juice every 2 hours, as recommended. I ate a banana with almond butter in the morning, some fruit in the afternoon, and some chicken and raw vegetables for dinner post-workout.
Gundalow introduces seasonal flavors which is exciting. Their winter flavors, which I tried in my package, are currently:
Sailor's Delight: Orange, Golden Apple, Raspberry, Lemon Ginger
Sailor Sunrise: Pineapple, Cucumber, Lime, Ginger, Jalapeno
S. S. Veggie: Cucumber, Apple, Kale, Spinach, Romaine, Celery, Lemon
Gundalow Green: Apple, Pineapple, Cucumber, Spinach, Celery, Lemon, Ginger
Green Tastes Great: Apple, Spinach, Celery, Cucumber, Lemon, Ginger
My favorites are the Sailor Sunrise and the Gundalow Green. The Sailor Sunrise tastes like a mix between grapefruit juice and a raspberry lemonade-I didn't want to be finished with the bottle! There is something really refreshing about their juices. The juices are all really light and well-balanced. Even the green juices taste delicious and not just like blended up spinach with water. I love the use of pineapple and citrus in many of their juices. It gives them such a unique and bright flavor.
Finally I feel like my personal philosophies line up with the brand so well. Gundalow Juice's motto of Sail Windward is all about fueling ambition and being ready to set sail and push through any curve balls life throws at you. How beautiful and inspiring is that?
I love how it says "settling is normal, but not in life." Totally something I say all the time! |
Overall I think Gundalow is a great Baltimore business putting out awesome juices. If you are looking at adding some juices to your diet or want to purchase a package to reset and refocus your diet, I definitely recommend them.
Be sure to check out Gundalow on Facebook or order a juice package online- tell them Lauren sent you!
Do you make or buy juices? What are your favorite juice flavors?
I just started juicing with my $30 juicer I bought off Craigslist. Never thought to juice raspberries or jalapenos. Your post gave me some ideas for new combos. That Sailor's Sunrise sounds amazing! Pineapple-jalapeno-kale is in my future! :)
ReplyDeleteJust a little jalapeno adds a nice kick to the juice!
DeleteI make fresh squeezed grapefruit juice every few weeks; I absolutely love it but limit citrus juice to avoid canker sores.

ReplyDeleteYum, my boyfriend has been buying grapefruit juice, but we should make it!
Deleteyum! i'm a huge juice lover and green juice is my thing. i can feel my cells jumping for joy when i drink it.
ReplyDeleteHaha that's adorable! I love making my cells happy.
DeleteI have never heard of this juice brand. They are a bit pricy I think. However those flavors sounds very tasty. Althougj it's cheaper than buying whole fruits and veggies. -L
ReplyDeleteIt's convenient, I really hate spending the time and cleaning a juicer!
DeleteI love me some local Baltimore businesses...how cool that we have our own juice company! I'm going to have to search some of this out. The Sailor Sunrise sounds awesome. I'm a sucker for anything containing jalapenos. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's great! They are always adding their juices to new spots!
DeleteI have had some local DC juices and they are great but SO expensive. It would be more worthwhile to buy a juicer and do it myself. These seem a little more reasonably priced!
ReplyDeleteI'm all about it being convenient to just buy juices and paying a little extra!
DeleteThese juices sound so good and healthy. Do you know if they are pasturized or processed in any way? I'm pregnant and have been told to only drink pasturized juices? Are these safe?
ReplyDeleteThey are so yummy-mention me (Lauren) if you order! I think you'd be okay because I know the juices are processed via high pressure, which is what destroys bacteria and doesn't use any preservatives. I would email or ask them before you placed your order to double check just to be safe.
DeleteI was getting workout injuries more often than usual, which reduced my regular exercise down to little exercise. The less I exercised, the more I felt out of shape. Green supplements helped me by lowering the effects of workout injuries.
ReplyDeleteIt may seems pricy, It's worth for it, much good :) Thanks for blogging :)
